TRIO SALC for Low-Income, First-Generation College Students, and/or Students with Disabilities

PROGRAM DESCRIPTION

The Summer Academic Learning Community (SALC) is a six-week program designed to equip students who identify as low-income, first-generation college students and/or students with documented learning disabilities with the skills, knowledge, and tools to thrive at UIC. Students will receive math instruction, gain unique insights and resources to successfully navigate the university, and connect with a diverse community of students, staff, and faculty. SALC will also engage students in team building, improv, and other interactive workshops.

SALC is Free!

Course instruction, meals, and social activities are completely covered by TRIO/ Academic Support Program. Students are only expected to pay for transportation to and from campus.

Program Highlights

  • Gain key UIC insights and meet students, faculty, and staff across campus
  • Experience a college classroom and interact with UIC Teaching Assistants
  • Save money on college tuition by having an opportunity to advance to a credit bearing math course

Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday
9:00 am – 12:00 pm

FIRST DAY

On the first day of SALC, students should plan to meet at 8:30am at the TRIO office in the Student Services Building (SSB), Suite 2720 which is located at 1200 W. Harrison Street. At this time, students will have an opportunity meet TRIO staff, SALC students, and the math instructors. When you come to SALC, please come prepared and bring a notebook and writing utensils. We look forward to meeting you!

WHO SHOULD REGISTER?

    • Students who identify as low-Income, first-generation college students and/or students with documented learning disabilities
    • Students who placed in Math 090 based on the UIC Placement Test
