Summer Enrichment Chemistry Workshop

This program will be facilitated on-campus.

The Summer Enrichment Chemistry Workshop (SECW) is a six-week intensive engagement focusing on foundational skills needed to succeed in a first semester general college chemistry course. The workshop will emphasize understanding chemical vocabulary and concepts and then combining these concepts with basic math skills to solve a variety of problems. Topics such as metric units, proportional reasoning, the mole concept, chemical stoichiometry, solutions, and chemical reactions will be explored. Students who successfully complete this workshop will be eligible for a revised placement into General College Chemistry I Matter and Energy (Chem 122) or Comprehensive General Chemistry (Chem 115 for Pre-nursing students). All workshop students will become familiar with online homework programs and electronic resources used in Chemistry at UIC.
